Young Hollywood Party

So I went to this "Young Hollywood Party" benefit last night sponsored by CAA. Sounds like it would be a great networking opportunity, right? Not exactly. I was expecting, you know, like a cocktail party, or something, for networking purposes. No, instead, it was a nightclub complete with blaring music and throngs of young Hollywood cliques cocktailing and dancing up a storm. Actually, I think their "benefit" was just an excuse to mash together and drink. I've never seen so many beautiful people under one roof. How lame. Even more lame was the price -- $35. So I had one $13 cosmo (it was supposed to be open bar, but they conveniently ran out of their "free drink specials") and departed. Flush. That's the sound of my hard-earned money being flushed down the toilet.

Human Trafficking

I just finished watching one of the most disturbing movies I've ever seen. And it was on the Lifetime Channel of all things. Yes, as in TV for women. It's called "Human Trafficking" starring Mira Sorvino and Donald Sutherland about the human slave trade. Not only was it eye-opening, but it was very graphic, as well.

I'm amazed in this day and age women and children can be kidnapped and sold as sex slaves. And it happens right here in our own backyard. How sick is that? It makes me want to throw in the ol' Hollywood towel and try to do something good for mankind. I always did want to volunteer for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Maybe this movie will be my inspiration. Oh, who am I kidding? I'm caught in that vicious broken record I mentioned below.

Broken Record

Get up. Go to work. Come home. Check email. Chores. Errands. Maybe go to the gym. Make dinner. Watch some TV. Check email. Rinse. Repeat.

Notice, I didn't mention anything about writing? Ugh, what has happened to my life since I moved to California? I'm a slave to others I tell you. Hating it. Need to break the habit. But how? I'm so frustrated.

Boogie Nights

So I met my favorite porn star last night. Yes, you read that right. Joined a friend for drinks at a bar in Silver Lake and he was there, much to my surprise, at the premiere of his a new, ahem, film with a handful of other "stars". Unfortunately, he was a little odd in person. Really full of himself, I think. However, he did autograph his postcard for me and he gave me a peck on the cheek. How sweet. His co-star, whom we actually had a pleasant conversation with, was much more down-to-earth and normal. And then, there he is up on the small screen doing his thing. I don't know, the whole pornography lifestyle fascinates me.

So, let's see, since I've been in LA, I've met:

Jeri Ryan -- check

Sidney Poitier -- check

Morgan Fairchild -- check

And my favorite porn star -- check

Only in LA.

The Dying Gaul

Saw this movie tonight at a screener. Yeah, I had never heard of it either. It stars Patricia Clarkson and Peter Saarsgard, whom I both love. It was of particular interest to me because it's about a screenwriter who becomes involved with a film executive and his wife. Interesting piece of work. I was amazed to learn at the Q&A afterward that it was the writer/director Craig Lucas' first effort at directing a film. You can hear the podcast at creativescreenwriting.com. Lucas is quite the character. He is the writer behind PRELUDE TO A KISS, LONGTIME COMPANION and the fairly new Broadway play, "Light in the Piazza." Check it out, it's worth a look.

Here Comes The Rain Again

Today and yesterday felt like a chilly fall day here in SoCal, something more akin to weather in the Northeast. Yesterday, it poured rain all day long. Thunder exploded and lightning flashed across the sky. Not to mention, Mother Nature showered my neighborhood with hail for about five minutes. I have to admit this kind of weather makes me yearn for fall and foliage.

It's A Small World

So I'm working out at my new gym Crunch around the corner from my new fabulous apartment and who should I see? No, not a movie star, unfortunately. Although, Raul did see Jeff Goldblum there last week. No, I saw Mr. Pyscho Realtor! You know, the wack-job that pressured me into making an offer on a condo I didn't want? The one who went ballistic and threw my cell phone on the conference room table when we declined to make an offer? Yeah, that Pyscho Realtor. I feel like I'm in high school again and just discovered the class bully is in my gym class. Why, God, why? Ugh!

Back in the Saddle

It’s been a crazy busy last two weeks. Moving will do that to you. I am finally all settled into my new fabulous apartment and loving it. The move itself was rather trying, only because there were basically two of us doing the job and I was feeling under-the-weather. The night before my move I had a sore throat and came down with a lovely fever. I’m feeling better now and ready to climb back into the saddle.
