The End Is Near

I hate when Labor Day weekend creeps up on me because it signals one thing -- the end of summer. Wah! Then again, I live in California now, so it probably doesn't apply. But still, even though I'm in SoCal, it seems they go by the same rules. Back to school sales, new falls fashions, it gets dark earlier and earlier, etc.

Actually, this Labor Day weekend I am particularly looking forward to because my mom and Raul are both coming for a visit. Yea! She arrived in Chicago today and will continue on to LA on Thursday. Raul was supposed to return on Tuesday, but pushed it back because he's still dealing with problems at his mother's house in Puerto Rico. The last three weekends he's had to go down to San Juan, while supervising the bathroom redo back home. Ugh.

Nothing new to report at work. Spoke to the usual suspects again. It's getting to be kind of old by now, isn't it?

On the social scene, I went to what I thought was going to be a premiere party for a new reality show on Logo called "Open Bar" at I Candy. It's a show that follows the owner of the bar, who recently came out and decided to open a bar in West Hollywood. Well, I received an email that said I was invited, so I assumed it was going to be the whole velvet rope, guest list thing. Not exactly ... It was just like any other night out. What the hell? Oh well, my friend and I still had fun drinking $5 cosmos and kvetching about how we feel invisible to all the pretty boys. Seen: James Getzlaff (for the second time now) from Bravo's "Boy Meets Boy." In fact, he squirmed his way next to me to get to the bar. But we never exchanged pleasantries because he. never. even. looked. at. me. Invisible, I tell you.

Next! We moved on to another bar down the street that was even more crowded and more fun. However, while waiting for my friend to go to the bathroom, this guy and his friend, literally, shoved me out of the way to get by me and hang back by the wall. Well, usually, I'm a non-confrontational kinda guy, but this time, let me tell you, I turned around so fast and shoved him up against the wall and screamed at him. "Don't (bleep) shove me out of the way (bleep)!" I guess feeling like I'm invisible really got to me .... Or was it all those cosmos flowing through my veins? ;)

Moving on, today I went to brunch at the Standard hotel on the Sunset Strip. One of my favorite brunch spots, by the way. Anyway, who should we see, but none other than Nicole Ritchie. And yes, she is as skinny as she looks on the cover of Star magazine. That be-yotch is all skin and bones, I tell you. Pretty face, but toothpick skinny. Blech.

Later, I ran to Zuma Beach in Malibu with my friend and her kids. We stopped by Neptune's Net for fresh seafood and then came home. I was supposed to go to the movies, but my friend's friends couldn't decide on which movie to see. We wanted to see HAPPY ENDINGS, but one of them doesn't like Tom Arnold. Then, they wanted to see BROKEN FLOWERS, but my friend and I don't care for Bill Murray that much. However, we were willing to see it anyway because Sharon Stone and Jessica Lange are both in it to make up for Bill. Then they decided they didn't want to see it all, so my friend called it a night and went home. Too stressful. Just as well, I have things to do at home, not to mention a DVD I rented a week ago.

P.S. I finally, officially, met Justin Guarini this week when we rode the elevator up together in my building and I introduced myself. I have to say, he's a really nice guy.
